do you like FREE stuff?

Sure we ALL do! Head on over to Blissfully Enamored for a GIVEAWAY and you could win one of these!

Win Big with your old trophies

If you're like me, you're taking advantage of this unseasonably nice July weather and doing some summer cleaning! Our garage has been a challenge ever since we moved in about three months ago. Everything that didn't have a certain place in our new home got shoved out to the garage. However, I would really like to use the garage for what it's for: storing our vehicles. So far, we have been parking our cars in the driveway and using our garage as a storage room, a very large and very hot storage room.

While cleaning our garage we have found some interesting things from my great grandmother's dishes to childhood furniture. I still have the dresser that was in my nursery and I plan to use it in our children's nursery one day. (NO, I'm not pregnant!)

When I came across these old trophies, I stopped, reminisced for a while, thinking back about when, where, and how I received each other of them. Most of them were from swim team. I think anyone who was on the swim team received one because I know I didn't win that many races. :)Another one was for "most improved student" that year. I remember struggling with classes, whether it was because of lack of discipline or just a pure hatred for homework I'm not sure, but apparently I figured out how to study enough to "improve"- of course, I'm really not sure how much studying is required in elementary school...maybe they just felt sorry for me because I didn't win any other academic awards and this was all they could come up with. Quite possible.

Anyway, I did a google search on "what to do with old trophies" and came across this article from Planet Green, "Where to donate old trophies." This article gives several options of where to send your trophies to be recycled and reused instead of sitting on a shelf or in a box collecting dust. This is definitely the path I will choose- donating.

I encourage you to clean out YOUR garage and when you DO, don't just toss what you don't want. Take the time to recycle, donate or reuse what you already have. Before I donate my childhood trophies, I might even take pictures of each of them and write a short memory about each one. That way the MEMORY is not lost but I will have more room in my garage. One day when my kids get a trophy and ask, "Mom, did YOU ever receive a trophy?"(I mean, like that SO hard to believe) I can pull out my pictures and my memories I wrote down.

So, let's recap: old memories are not lost, more room in garage, and trophy is being used for a good purpose. Everyone wins here!

Have you recycled anything cool lately? or perhaps you found something in your garage or attic that you found a new purpose for... this is also I popular form of recycling.

Weekend Review: Antique Shopping

What could be more fun than a day of antique shop hopping! I started off at what ended up being more of a JUNK store! I had never seen anything like it. I was literally piles of junk everywhere. In the store, there was barely room to move because of all the stuff. I took a few pictures just to prove my point!
When I started feeling a little claustrophobic, I headed out back...but I quickly found junk, junk, junk, and more junk.

To me, it wasn't fun to have to dig to find things. I mean, on one hand it was kind of like looking for hidden treasure...on the other hand I kept wondering if the tetus shot I had when I was a little kid would still work after all these years. Not worth it to me, so I moved along down the road to the next antique shop which was much more visually pleasing. 8)

This store had everything categorized by items:
COATS

HATS

TRUCKS

And this snazzy red child's bicycle that I almost bought! They had something for everyone whether a fasion diva or a cat lover. Yes, that's right-a cat lover. Check out this sweet poster!

Want to know what I ended up taking home with me? Well, that's another post. Stay tuned.

Blog Feature: Blissfully Enamored

I am really excited to share this blog with you today! This blog, Blissfully Enamored, is first of all, the cutest blog name I've heard in a while and secondly, this blog owner is a dear friend of mine from college. I have always known Hilary to be spunky, creative and quite frankly always in fashion! Today I want to focus on her creativity. During college, Hilary was my lil sis in our sorority and she made me a zebra print frame that I loved and still have to this day! Well, Hilary is back at it again- making frames! She makes the cutest wooden square frames and custom designs them however you like! Just take a look at how precious these frames are. I recently purchased a frame from her and now it holds one of my favorite pictures from our wedding day.I love the details on my frame, the ribbon and the bow. They are perfect and the colors go with our wedding colors! Contact Hilary today to order your custom frame! Check out her Etsy site!

Birthday Review: Cajun Style

I celebrated my 26th birthday this weekend with friends and family. We kept with sort of a Cajun/Louisiana theme without really realizing it. Saturday night we went to Maddies Place (my choice) in Little Rock. Maddies Place serves "fresh adaptations of comfort food with a New Orleans influence, served in a funky, informal, family-friendly environment." They have THE BEST chicken fingers that are cooked in cornmeal which makes them gluten free! So yummy! And the restaurant is decorated in NOLA decor everywhere! Makes me feel like home! Afterwards, we headed on over to Cajuns to sit out of the deck and listen to some live music. All in all, it was a great night with friends! These aren't the greatest pictures but it's the only ones I got before my camera died. I had Lasik eye surgery and still can't wear make up. That's why I'm looking a little rough in these. :)
My birthday was made complete with this yummy gluten free cake. It is so rich and delicious! There's enough to eat on it all week! Thanks, Christen!

Thank you!

*A special thanks to my friend, Jessica, who gave a donation AFTER this post was written! Thanks, Jessica!
This year for my birthday, I did something a little different- I asked for donations to a charity instead of gifts. I think this is a GREAT idea and I will definitely do this again next year. This year, my cause was C.A.R.E- Central Arkansas Rescue Effort. I just wanted to say a big "Thank You" to everyone who donated and helped raise $102 for C.A.R.E. Thank you to my mom, my mother-in-law and my cousin's family in Texas! Y'all are the best!

It may not seem like a lot of money but every little bit helps keeps dogs and cats off the streets of Central Arkansas and into great home!

And remember, even though my birthday is over with, you can donate year round to this great organization. Click here to make a donation today! Even a donation of 5 dollars would be amazing! It would make my week!
